11-03-2012 Silver Falls Marathon

Silver Falls State Park, one of the most beautiful parks in Oregon ran its first full marathon on Saturday. There were participants from 20 states as well as Canada. The morning started out unlike most Run Wild Adventure races, it was raining. For the past three years, that I've been photographing races for Run Wild Adventures have had mostly fair weather. Sure there have been some drizzles, but this was storm like rain and gusts of wind. Luckily, the rain pretty much stopped by the time the Marathon runners lined up at the starting line at 8:37am.

As a photographer, Chris(my second photographer) and I tried something new this year, instead of positioning my trail photographer near the large and popular South Falls, I had Chris set up just after North Falls on the opposite end of the park. Not knowing what the fall colors would be like at that end of the park it was a gamble from what we were familiar with, but the gamble paid off. The fall colors were out in full force and the location had a much nicer view of North Falls in the background.

The event also had some really cool participation medals that double as bottle openers! This was in addition to the always creative trophy that are given out to top finishers.
